Nature’s Cancer Fighters

February 21st, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Vitamin pills and supplements are no substitute for eating our vegetables. Scientists are now finding out why. It just so happens that fruits and vegetables are loaded with compounds called phytochemicals and antioxidants that demonstrably lower the risk of cancer.

Phytochemicals are not related to vitamins or minerals. They are not even nutrients. Phyto is Latin for plant. These are natural chemicals only found in plants. These food chemicals cannot be obtained from animal products. What makes these substances so exciting is that study after study continues to reveal the many cancer-protective benefits of the different phytochemicals.

You can lower your risk of cancer quite a bit by eating more fruits and vegetables. More than 200 major studies over the past 25 years have consistently shown that high plant food eaters are about half as likely to have cancer as those who eat few plant foods. This is also true for heart disease, adult diabetes, and certain other lifestyle diseases.

Phytochemicals protect against cancer usually as a blocking agent or suppressing agents. Blocking agents work on the carcinogens. They prevent them from affecting the body’s cells. For example:

- Indoles found in cruciferous vegetables (cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli) work as blocking agents by increasing colon enzymes that can deactivate some of these carcinogens.

- Others block the ability of bacteria to attach themselves to the surface of the cell.

Suppressing agents work on the body’s own cells, combating malignant changes that have been started by free radicals or carcinogens. They can slow tumor growth by suppressing the cancer cells ability to reproduce. They can suppress certain enzymes that cancer cells need in order to grow.

Some fruits and vegetables contain more potent cancer fighters than others.

1. For colon cancers, it is the cruciferous vegetables.

2. A high fruit and carrot intake appears to decreases the risk of lung cancers significantly.

3. Eating one or more onions a day were found to have only half the stomach of those who never ate onions.

4. Soy is an absolute treasure of cancer-protective phytochemicals. Studies suggest that soy foods diminish in many areas, including breast, colon, rectum, lung, and stomach.

The good news about phytochemicals is that you do not have to eat the foods raw to get the benefits. While a few of these compounds might lose some effectiveness when cooked, most still hold their medicinal properties. It also does not matter whether the vegetables are canned, frozen, juiced, or peeled. Pickling, boiling, microwaving, baking, and drying, are also ok.

The National Cancer Institute advocates a minimum of five servings of fruits and vegetables a day. Some people do not eat any at all.

Like phytochemicals, antioxidants are also natural chemicals found in food, but they are not limited to plant foods. The term antioxidant refers to a specific function they perform – they help the body dispose of free radicals that can genetically damage normal cells and set the stage for cancer.

“What are free radicals you ask?”

Every cell in our body is made up of molecules. Usually every molecule has electrons in range around its nucleus. These electrons usually come in pairs. This makes the molecule stable. However, some molecules have electrons that are not in pairs, leaving them extremely unstable. These molecules are called free radicals.

Free radicals have been found to have a role in at least 50 diseases. They have been known to damage DNA and are linked to cancer. It is important to strengthen our body’s antioxidant defenses with nature’s fighters.

What Is The Diet’s Role In Colon Cancer

January 22nd, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in both the USA and Europe, and is the most dangerous cancer besides . It can be easily cured when it is in its early stages, but the problem is that is rarely shows any signs and symptoms when the tumor is isolated, so it’s hard to detect it before it spreads. When it reaches metastasis, or stage IV, the chances of survival drop under 10% because in this phase it has already spread to at least one more organ. It usually spreads to the liver first, and then to the lungs.

It is hard to eliminate the cancer cells when it is in stage four. The medical approach is , because it can treat cancer that has spread, but it has severe side effects and it doesn’t always succeed.

Few people know that diet has an important role in cancer, in all types of cancer and in too. But remember that diet can prevent it or help the treatment, it can not cure alone.
Diet is important for those who don’t have , because if it is used properly it can prevent it by decreasing the risk factors, or if it’s neglected it can seriously increase the risk factors.

One of the main food types that increases the risk factors has proven to be red meat. Doctors were suspecting this for a long time, and recent research has shown that the assumption is correct.
The western diet unfortunately contains too many types of food that increase the risk not only of , but of other diseases and disorders too.

The best diet that can prevent a or can help the body fight it is a vegetarian diet that contains no fats, and involves eating a lot of fruits and grains, which are -fighting substances. Of course, many refuse to eat a fully vegetarian diet. Well at least try to reduce the amount of red meat and fat that you eat to a minimum.
If you just can’t stay away from fat foods you can enter a support program that is designed to help people with eating disorders solve their problems.

Remember that diet has an important role in cancer and somewhere later in life you may regret that you haven’t followed a healthy diet.

Alternative Cancer Treatments Do Work - One Family’s Story

January 17th, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

A few years ago my husband and I wanted to know if alternative cancer treatments really worked. We wanted to hear from people who had used alternative treatments for their cancer, what did they think about it, what did they go through, what kind of results did they get from using alternative cancer treatments?

If you or someone you love has cancer and you’re wondering if alternative might work for you, the story of our experience with alternative treatments may help.

My husband’s doctor had informed him that he had cancer and not long to live. Nobody wants to hear that they have cancer, we were both devastated.

The doctor wanted him to start as soon as possible but my husband had seen firsthand what that was like and he didn’t want to go through it. A couple of his friends had gone through treatments in their battle with cancer but neither of them had survived and they had both been in a lot of pain from the treatments.

We had heard that there were natural, alternative cancer treatments that work well for many people so we started searching for as much information on alternative cancer treatments as we could find in hopes of finding a cure for my husband’s cancer that wasn’t so harsh.

We found an alternative program that called for a change in diet, fresh juices and a lot of herbs. Intensive cleansing was a large part of the too. Other people told about their results with the alternative treatments and it looked promising.

Everything we read about alternative cancer treatments appealed to my husband a lot more than the horrible side effects of .

So we got everything we needed to start his alternative program and dug in. There were guidelines for what to do and what not to do and we followed it all. There were several things he had to give up and things he had to do that he’d never done before but he was ok with that if it would help him get well.

I made herb teas by the quart every day. We got our first juicer and as much super nutritious, fresh fruits and vegetables as out refrigerator would hold and my husband drank gallons of fresh juice. He did the cleansing every day as instructed and took herb bath soaks and hot and cold showers.

We went into the alternative program whole hearted and have been doing everything as instructed every day. It’s quite a life changing experience when you add natural stuff to your diet and routine that you never considered before. At first it seemed strange but we were faced with life or death so we were willing to try anything.

My husband had been really weak from the cancer but the alternative cancer treatments have gradually made him a lot stronger and now he can do almost anything he could do before. His doctor says that whatever this alternative thing is that he’s doing to keep doing it, it’s working. The cancer was huge but the alternative cancer treatments have shrunk it to almost nothing.

Even after the cancer is gone we’ll still do all the healthy stuff; he’s made the alternative cancer treatments a part of his life. We’ve heard that cancer can seem to be gone and then come back but he doesn’t want the cancer to take over again so he isn’t taking any chances. Doing the alternative cancer treatments every day is a bit more trouble but it’s well worth it.

I encourage you to try alternative cancer treatments for yourself; life is precious.

Learn About Alternative Cancer Treatments

December 7th, 2008 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

When people think of cancer treatments, the most likely things to come to mind are probably and radiation treatments. Most people would be surprised to know that there are treatments that can actually cure cancer. The reason most people have never heard of alternative cancer treatments is because they are not advertised while the pharmaceutical companies spend an enormous amount of money on advertising.

Cancer is a general term for about 100 diseases characterized by uncontrolled, abnormal growth of cells. The resulting mass, or tumor, can invade and destroy surrounding normal tissues. There are many possible causes of cancer, which fit into heredity, lifestyle, or environmental factors. Causes include smoking, a poor diet, genetic makeup, a poor immune system, and certain viruses, which cause genetic changes.

The common treatment methods are surgery, radiation, , immunotherapy, and bone marrow transplantation. The success rate depends on several factors for the particular patient and results will vary from person to person.

There are also alternative cancer treatments, which are not as well known as the more common methods. Alternative methods can be used alone or in conjunction with the medical treatments.

Cancer patients should definitely consider alternative cancer treatments. The popular orthodox treatments have horrible, painful side effects, damage the immunity system which can lead to more infectious diseases, kills more normal cells than cancerous cells, can destroy organs, and damage DNA. Patients in orthodox treatments will also usually be on a cocktail of medications to treat the painful side effects of the cancer treatments.

On the other hand, alternative cancer treatments cause no pain or suffering, usually strengthen the immunity system instead of damaging it, kills cancerous cells without harming normal cells, does not damage organs, and has not been known to damage DNA.

This is a quote from a German doctor who treated cancer patients using the alternative treatment cesium chloride protocol: “You would not believe how many FDA officials or relatives or acquaintances of FDA officials come to see me as patients in Hanover. Even the directors of the AMA, or ACA, or the presidents of orthodox cancer institutes. That’s the fact.” Hans Nieper M.D. (1928-1998)

There are a wide variety of alternative treatments. They include special diets or dietary supplements, electromagnetic therapy with electrical devices, specially formulated compounds (e.g., laetrile, and homeopathic remedies), unconventional use of conventional drugs (e.g., insulin), purges or enemas, physical manipulations of the body, and various herbs or herbal preparations.

Always consult with a trusted doctor before beginning any type of treatment.

Cancer patients should educate themselves on alternative treatments by reading literature and unbiased reviews and if they are interested in pursuing them, there are clinics around the world that specialize in treating cancer through alternative methods.

Online Cancer Support Groups - A Must For The Cancer Patient

November 12th, 2008 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Patients often wonder if they can use the internet for other purposes other than researching and information.

In fact, one of the additional benefits of the internet is that it allows people with common interests or problems from all over the world to share their experiences in online support groups. This applies to cancer, of course, and there are many online cancer support groups for almost every type of cancer.

These internet-based cancer communities are a potential goldmine of information. Think about the opportunity.

Imagine that you were in a room of 500 other patients who had been diagnosed with the same disease that you’re researching. Some may have been diagnosed recently. Others may have been diagnosed a few years previously.

Everybody in that room would have gone through the process of researching various cancer therapies, talking to other patients, and talking to medical specialists. Many of these cancer patients would have researched the latest research from the conventional medical establishment.

Some in the room would have also researched the alternative and so-called treatments available.

Many people in the room would have already undergone treatment and would be in a position to comment on how effective the treatment was and what side effects they experienced.

People may comment on how they were treated at a top medical center and you would be able to compare it to the treatment you may be about to receive at your medical center.

A good online cancer support group is the internet equivalent of being in that room with 500 other patients.

But, like most things in life that have a lot of potential benefit, there is a potential downside.

The downside is that although patients’ personal stories may be extremely informative, you must remember that learning about one other person’s experience does not mean that everybody will have the same experience.

You should use these forums as an opportunity to get a sense of what the controversial issues are and what avenues other highly motivated patients are pursuing in their research.

Then, you should combine the information you’ve gained from the online forums with the more scientific and credible information that you’ll have searched for at the major government cancer sites.

The best forums are moderated though so that no one can blatantly pitch commercial products or cures that they intend to profit from. These moderators read every post and suspend the privileges of any one who disregards the policies of the list.

These online cancer support groups are so valuable that you may want to join a number of them. But, I would be wary of any non-moderated list which seemed to have a lot of commercial messages.

In the final analysis, it’s probably best if you combine all the information you have received from all the different types of searching you have done, and sit down with your doctors for an informed discussion.
