Combating Cancer With a Cup of Tea

September 13th, 2008 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Generations of families in India and Asia have been turning to tea to cure what ails them. Back in the year 1191, a Zen priest penned a work entitled the Book of Tea, which told how green tea could benefit at least five vital organs, including the heart. At that time, green tea was thought to improve urinary and brain function, combat beriberi disease, and alleviate indigestion. In other words, green tea was considered to be a multi-purpose elixir, able to treat a wide variety of health problems.

But this ancient remedy has now found a place in modern scientific literature, thanks to a new wave of studies on the medicinal properties of green tea. While studies on human subjects have been inconclusive, initial evidence from the laboratory looks incredibly promising.

While green tea can be beneficial in attacking everything from high cholesterol to depression, it has perhaps gotten the most attention for its impact on cancer. In order to understand the significance of this, it is first necessary to have some knowledge of the disease of cancer itself.

Cancer: A Disease of the Genes

When cancer occurs, cells divide uncontrollably, meaning that the genes controlling cell growth have been damaged in some way. In fact, a gene has to mutate a number of times before a typical cell will change into a cancer cell.

Antioxidants are important because they can stop the enzyme activities that give rise to cancer. In essence, they repair DNA problems which have been caused by oxidants, or free radicals.

Green Tea—A Natural Antioxidant

Green tea has been considered a godsend for good health because it contains antioxidants known as catechins. These substances have been called impressive inhibitors of cancer growth. Here’s how they do it: lab tests show that they combat oxidants prior to cell injuries, stop the growth of tumor cells, and reduce the occurrence of tumors.

For instance, mice tumors were found to shrink when the lab animals ingested green tea. This phenomenon occurred whether the cancer affected the liver, the skin, or the stomach.

Green Tea and Cancer Prevention

In an article which appeared in the Journal of Cellular Biochemistry, authors Santosh Katiyar and Hasan Mukhtar noted that the special properties found in tea can help , according to the experimental data available. This is significant, considering the wide availability of tea. As the authors recognize, tea is grown in about 30 different countries and it’s considered to be the most popular beverage worldwide.

Most scientific studies using tea have focused on the therapeutic effects of green tea. In these lab tests, the green tea is fed to mice as an extract in water or in a purified form. Green tea has even been found to have some positive medicinal effect before birth in the womb.

A Variety of Uses

Interestingly enough, medical research shows that the benefits of green tea are not limited to combating only one type of cancer. In fact, consuming green tea may help prevent the development of cancers of the stomach, lungs, esophagus, pancreas, liver, breast, and colon.

Still, even researchers admit that the reasons behind green tea’s broad therapeutic effects are not clear. A number of theories have been put forward—theories which require further investigation.

The Effects of Tea Drinking on Human Beings

Much of what we know about green tea’s effects comes from animal studies. While some research indicates that tea drinkers are less prone to cancer, other studies offer a conflicting view. This may be because there are a number of environmental factors which can contribute to the development of cancer, including diet, carcinogens in one’s living space, and the like.

Still, in China, where green tea is particularly popular, research results are encouraging. A study of more than 18,000 Chinese men found that tea drinkers were far less likely to experience stomach cancer than non-tea drinkers. Yet, a Netherlands study involving tens of thousands of men and women indicated there was no link between drinking tea and .

The Continuing Medical Debate

The debate over the health benefits of green tea continues at the highest levels of government and academia. For instance, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration asserts that green tea does not reduce the risk of breast, prostate, or any other type of cancer. The FDA also states that green tea does not reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

However, a study published in the fall of 2006 in the Journal of the American Medical Association directly contradicts the FDA’s contentions. That study indicated that drinking three or more cups of green tea could reduce the risk of death from heart disease.

Future Research Possibilities

Yet, there is a continued push toward additional research of the green tea phenomenon. For instance, the National Cancer Institute is especially interested in exploring the ability of green tea to prevent . Researchers are examining the effects of both green tea in pill form and green tea creams applied directly to the skin.

Mesothelioma Doctors

September 13th, 2008 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Mesothelioma is not easy for doctors to diagnose. Although humankind has witnessed tremendous advances in medical diagnosis technologies and techniques, continues to remain a challenge for doctors. Thus, not every doctor can treat this disease. It calls for the service of a special set of doctors who are trained to handle cases.

Being a complex disease, requires several different types of treatment. Seeking the help of specialized doctors, each trained in specific fields or treatment, is the best possible means of treating . Since there are various types of that affect different body parts, it is best if the disease is treated with a team. To begin with, even before a patient is referred to the specialist team, the onus of suspecting the symptoms as related to cancer, such as , lies with the general practitioner.

Once the general practitioner refers the patient, the specialized team decides the future course of action. The first specialist in the team is a pulmonologist who is specially trained to diagnose and treat conditions as well as diseases that are related to lung disorders. This specialist can competently handle cases of pleural , , bronchitis, asthma, emphysema, and COPD. The next specialist in line is the thoracic surgeon, who specializes in undertaking surgery of the lungs, amongst others, and can deal with coronary disease, lung and abdominal cancers, and heart and lung surgery.

The medical oncologist is another trained physician who specializes in treating cancer through . Even within oncologists, there are several types of physicians who specialize in treating cancer. In contrast to the medical oncologist is the radiation oncologist, who treats cancer through radiation therapy, and the radiologist, who uses equipment such as x-rays, ultrasound, and scans to diagnose cancer.

An additional group of specialists consists of pathologists who monitor and evaluate changes in the human cells in order to understand the nature of the disease. Using body fluids and excretions, they identify the disease and its intensity. However, unlike other -trained physicians, pathologists do not directly treat patients. Similarly, there are some other specialists who also do not participate directly in the treatment process. These include the social worker and the respiratory therapist.

Breast Cancer Invasion

September 13th, 2008 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

For cancer to develop, all cells need more than the ability to divide and grow uncontrollably. Non-cancerous, benign tumors also undergo that process. What is ultimately crucial is their ability to invade outside their localized area. The cells in any given area are tightly attached to each other, forming a natural guard against invasion. So for a cell to break outside of its own area and into another area requires special qualities.

One of the things being studied now in terms of cancer is that tight cell connection. There is a kind of special “glue” called the extracellular matrix which holds cells together. If a cell has a substance that can dissolve or consume the “glue”, it will have a much better chance of getting out of its area and into another.

The ability of a cancer cell to invade may be caused by several factors. One of these is the ability to release a protein, known as metalloproteinase that functions to dictate the cell connections not to adhere to each other so tightly. Then the other cells behave in a way that allows the cancer cell to escape its territory and invade. Another possibility is that the cancer cell may be able to push its way out of the tight cell connection on its own. There are a lot of ways this might happen. In the long run, that is good because there are a lot of potential ways to interfere with this process. The down side of it is, it’s difficult in the short run because this makes these complicated to figure out.

With the discovery of various cancer genes came a new way of thinking about . The astonishing part of it is that all these years, cancer cells have been studied by looking at them in isolation. Medical researchers take cancer cells and grow them in petri dishes and then study their behavior. This is like placing criminals in isolation chambers and then studying their personalities. They’re not interacting with anyone, so there actually is no way to examine how they behave. We have finally realized that if we were to study cancer cells seriously in their own environment we can learn much more, because they interact with their surrounding cells and the surrounding cells have an effect on them.

A medical researcher in Berkeley, California, has begun studying cancer cells in a breast tissue environment. She took cells that have genetic mutations and grew them in a cell culture or normal breast extracellular matrix. In that environment the cancer cells behaved like normal cells - they proliferated and grew breast ducts and did other things that healthy breast cells do. The influence of healthy normal cells surrounding the cancer cells caused them to function in a normal way, even though they were already genetically altered.

This means that, if the right tools were found, cancer may be reversible, or at least be controlled to some extent and we won’t have to try to kill every last cancer cell.

This Man Figured Out How To Eliminate Cancer With Electronic Frequencies In The 1930’s

September 13th, 2008 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Can A 1930s Cancer Cure Still Work Today?

Did The American Medical Association Bury Groundbreaking Technology?

You may have heard about Royal Raymond Rife- he was a brilliant engineer with a background in many different fields, including frequency generators and optical engineering. This story is about how that expertise led him to discover a cure for cancer in the 1930s, and how that knowledge was ‘lost,’

Henry Timken was a businessman; he developed an empire in the ball-bearing industry. Royal Rife was a bright-witted youth fresh out of college. The friendship between these two men would change the world.

From Engineering to Cancer Research

Rife’s background working with Carl Zeiss, the famous lens manufacturer, gave rise to Rife’s unique vision in optical engineering. The story continues as Rife put his skills to work for Timken, developing an X-Ray eye to monitor precise quality control over the entire ball-bearing production line.

Rife’s X-Ray eye saved Timken billions of dollars. Out of gratitude for saving him so much money, Timken funded a lucrative research budget for Rife.

With Timken’s money Rife built a research lab in San Diego in the 1920’s where he set out to find a causative agent for cancer. His expertise in such diverse areas of engineering (along with his never-ending budget!) allowed him to excel quickly and build every part he needed in his own machine shop.

By the early 1930’s Rife had built microscopes capable of viewing living viruses. In the laboratory Rife found two viruses which were always present with cancerous tumors. He called one of these viruses the ‘BX virus’ that he correlated to carcinoma. The other virus, which he had correlated to sarcoma, he called the ‘BY virus’.

Recalling his background in frequency generators, his new goal was to find frequencies which would be disruptive to the growth of the virus. Using the theory that you can vibrate a microbe with ‘coordinative resonance’ until it is overpowered and dissolves, he began to find disruptive frequencies for various viruses.

He found that each species of virus pulsed with a specific or frequency. Through years of arduous research he found frequencies he called the ‘Mortal Oscillatory Rate’ or M.O.R. for short. The M.O.R. frequency was Rife’s ‘kill’ frequency - the frequency that the microbe naturally resonates at and the one which he believed would disrupt the virus’ growth and dissolve the tumor.

Rife’s work in this field has essentially vanished from the radar screen of the general public and the medical establishment. Why? Click here for part two (link here) of this report, to find out more about this overlooked hero.
