The In Depth Study of Mesothelioma Part 3 - Pericardial Mesothelioma

June 25th, 2008 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

This is the last installment of my 3 part study. This part discusses one of the least common forms of in the 3 main branches of asbestos cancer: pericardial . Although it is one of the more rare forms of this deadly cancer, it does not make it any less of a threat, as the same causes that develop the pleura, and peritoneal forms of also cause pericardial .

Pericardial, as some may be able to see by the name, has to do with the heart. Mesothelioma attacks the sac around the heart called the pericardium. This is a devastatingly threatening form of the cancer, as the heart is central to oxygenated blood throughout the body. If the heart fails, the body is sure to follow.

Some symptoms of pericardial are shortness of breath, chest pain, and nausea, much like a heart attack. Since the sac around the heart is becoming cancerous, blood pressure changes are often seen, and sluggishness, exhaustion, and fatigue are often results of lack of blood flow throughout the body. By the time these symptoms appear, the diagnosed patient will potentially see an increase in these painful symptoms, and there is little to nothing that can be done to ease discomfort.

Treatment, as with the other two cancers, is the same: radiation, surgery, , and fluid drainage. Although advances in these techniques have become more and more promising, a cure is still no where in sight, and only a finite amount of comfort can be given to on suffering from pericardial . Some have said that pericardial can be one of the most painful forms of asbestos cancer, and that treatments have little to no affect on pain.

As with the other two forms of , pericardial is a cancer that could have been avoided, and individuals that have this disease should seek out attorneys that specialize in cases. The legal action against asbestos manufacturers on behalf of those who suffer must be taken with careful consideration and swift action. Many attorneys specializing in cases can win millions of dollars for those with this deadly disease. And those individuals must seek out the right course of action.

In conclusion to this 3 part series, I would like to say that my thoughts and prayers go out to those suffering from any form of this deadly cancer. And I hope that you find comfort in justice, and in the loved ones around you.

Cancer: Your Battle Plan — The Cancer Care Therapy

June 25th, 2008 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Cancerous cells are multiplying in your body and invading your vital organs. They sap your body of energy and weaken you. The final episode is certain — you may die.

You have to fight these cancerous cells. It is important at the onset to realise that this is your body and it is your war. You have to fight this war yourself. Others can advise you, but you are not going to win if you do not have the determination to help yourself. A man who gives up hope and resigns his destiny to fate cannot win any war!

Encouragement from family members and friends is also very helpful. But, also remember too many cooks, spoil the broth. Friends and relatives can be well-meaning when they talk, but some can be extremely insensitive and destructive. Take for example, the following episode.

Ben had liver cancer and his doctor said he had only two months to live. One voluntary organisation, concerned with helping the terminally ill, called to help. While trying to be helpful, the representative said: “Oh, this is such a serious case. Ben has only one month to live.” Judge for yourself what such an insensitive comment did to the patient, or his loved ones. So, relatives and friends, when you visit cancer patients, be very careful about what you say. Your words can be damaging. If you feel ill-at-ease or uncomfortable at offering sympathetic words or advice, it is better not to visit them. If you really have to visit them, learn to keep your mouth shut!

At CA Care we have been helping cancer patients “fight” their cancer war. We wish to impress upon patients that there is still hope, even when the doctors gave up on you. You are not doomed yet. There is no hurry to pick up your spade and dig your grave. Fight on!

This is our suggestion for your battle plan: fight cancer the Cancer Care Therapy way.

1. Give your total commitment to fight the disease

2. Seek proper medical advice

3. Take herbs

4. Eat rightly

5. Lead a stress-free life

When we think of war, what comes uppermost to our mind is Vietnam. Mighty America went to the battlefield with the most sophisticated gadgets and weapons of war. Might, terror, money and brain went into the fight to win. The Vietnamese had primitive weaponry and burrowed themselves into the ground to avoid the mighty Americans. The world knows, the Vietnamese won the war!

Perhaps fighting cancer is like the above war? Surgery, radiotherapy, etc. are advanced, mighty fire power. Cancer cells are just tiny enemies floating and circulating around in the blood stream that later attach themselves to certain tissues of the body. Can these awesome treatments destroy all cancerous cells yet at the same time not destroy the host i.e., you and your living systems?

In our strategy to fight cancer, while we advise you to seek the assistance of modern medicine, we also feel you should benefit from the traditional methods of . We think you should help your body to build or rebuild a strong immune system. Let your own body’s defence system destroy or fight the cancerous cells. Fight the war from within! The mighty, sophisticated weaponry of modern medicine may not be totally effective!

Healing of Cancer: Awakening the Physician Within

June 25th, 2008 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

The oncologist asked Melisa, who had that had spread to the liver and lungs, to have her liver surgically removed. There were about thirty spots of varying sizes in her liver. Melisa asked the oncologist how such surgery could possibly save her. The oncologist was irritated and replied: “Who is the doctor, you or me?” Melisa was right. By declining the surgery she saved herself from unnecessary sufferings and also her life! Medical tradition regards patients as passive elements in the technological battle between the doctors and the cancer. The ideal patient therefore is one who is under anaesthesia!

Now, there is a new awakening that patients who participate in their succeed while those who take their fate ‘lying down’ fail. We have been taught that when we are ill it is the medicine that cures. Modern medicine has long ignored the self- ability of our body. We take for granted. We never realise that our body heals by itself. Let me remind you of the following:

1) The power of the body is within us. There is a physician within us and this power heals us absolutely.

2) Many of us are ignorant or are unaware of our own body’s potential.

3) Many of us block ourselves off from this potential, preferring to trust others whom we think can ‘cure’ us rather than trust our own ‘Infinite Intelligence’ within.

4) Many of us create unhealthy circumstances with negative and self-denying thoughts and these eventually make us sick. We fail to recognise that these are the root causes of our many illnesses.

5) We are unaware that from the day we are born, we have been bombarded with negative suggestions. Negativity begets illness.

Joseph Murphy in The Power of Your Subconscious Mind wrote: “Think good and good will follow, think evil, evil follows. Change your thought and you change your destiny.”

The very first step in is for every to recognise the influence of his own mind on his illness and recovery process. A negative mindset leads to more trouble and possibly unnecessary death, while a positive mindset gears you towards recovery. Many a time I asked patients if they carry any emotional ‘baggage’ or harbour any ‘unresolved’ emotional conflicts within them. Invariably the answer would be: “No, no, I have no emotional problems at all”. They simply do not want to admit or discuss them; perhaps for fear that people know their ‘secrets’ or they do not see the relevance or relationship between unresolved personal ‘emotions’ and their cancers. After all, in schools we are taught that illness is caused by some kind of a ‘bug’, virus or germ and that it has nothing to do with the head. Most patients would tell me that whatever ‘problems’ they have are all ‘old issues’ and have ‘long been forgotten’. Such comments and attitudes only go to show sheer ignorance or ‘arrogance’. Think again I say; do you carry any ‘baggage’? Remember that you are not just a machine — without any mind or soul. You are sick because ‘something inside is eating you up’.

Let me, however, clarify myself. I am not against anyone taking medicine for his/her illness. By all means, go and see a doctor and take the medicine prescribed. When an illness has reached an advanced stage, the use of medicine becomes inevitable. By taking medicine, be it chemical, drug or herb, what we are doing is to help in the process.
Let me suggest a list of some active steps that you can take to heal your mind, your soul and lastly, your body.

1) Think positively; as you think, so you become! Cultivate positive attitudes of love, joy, happiness, sharing, caring, promotion of self-esteem and self-confidence.

2) Free yourself of negative thoughts. Many negative thoughts are ingrained into our subconscious mind and they become part of us. You and I have similar problems. And more often than not, we do not even know that these negative thoughts ever exist or are causing us all these problems. We are the products of our environment and experiences of our lives. To be able to free ourselves from these negative thoughts we must, first and foremost, be aware and recognise that these negative thoughts are in us. If we keep denying that they are non-existent, there will be no reason for change.

3) Be the active participant in your . You cannot remain neutral in your . You can either be passive or active. The golden rule of psychosomatic medicine is that patients must actively take charge of their illness. Get rid of the psychological or emotional cancer in you. Doctors cannot help you with emotional cancer. Indeed, no one can help you deal with that, except yourself. On the other hand, if you decide to be passive, then by default, you are encouraging the cancer to take over you. So, the choice is yours. Again, remember that a positive mindset promotes .

4) Accept the diagnosis, NOT the prognosis. When diagnosed with cancer, it seems the most popular question asked of the doctor is: “How much longer do I have?” Patients then get answers like: “At most three to six months,” or “Go home and get your papers in order.” If we understand voodoo, then know that such answers are indeed a voodoo curse. They are like hypnotic instructions. The patients’ mind will bring that prognosis to pass. Doctors give the death sentence and the patients keep the bone pointing at themselves. Norman Cousins (Head First: The Biology of Hope) advised: “Don’t deny the diagnosis, just defy the verdict that is supposed to accompany it.” It short, accept the diagnosis but do not believe the prognosis. Know that the prerogative of living and dying rests with the Almighty God, not men.

Shark Liver Oil And Cancer

June 25th, 2008 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Other chemicals in shark liver oil being studied against cancer are squalamine and squalene.

It is important to know that shark liver oil is substantially different from shark cartilage supplements, even though both come from the same fish. Shark liver oil contains potentially therapeutic substances unlike those found in the cartilage.

Shark liver oil is a rich source of alkylglycerols, chemicals that may have anticancer properties

The biologic properties of shark liver oil include encouragement of blood leukocyte and thrombocyte production as well as the activation of macrophage and anti-tumor activity.

Other properties include the capability to protect against radiation damage during radiation therapy for various types of cancer. Alkylglycerols act as a tough immune system booster against infectious disease and are what help give nursing animals, including breast-fed babies, protection against infection until their own immune systems can fully develop. In a study published in the Journal of Cell Physiology ( February 1999), researchers studied the cell differentiation-promoting potential of a particular type of alkylglycerols on human cells. The scientists wanted to observe the capability of alkylglycerols to change the biological makeup of human cells. Alkylglycerols were shown to “. . . . promote a more benign or differentiated phenotype in cells.”

Treatment of the cancer cells with alkylglycerols resulted in a reduction of cellular proliferation and a reduced capacity for cellular invasion. In other words, alkylglycerols led to lowered cancer cell reproduction and a reduced capacity of the cancer cells to invade healthy cells.

The authors summarised that alkylglycerols possess both cancer preventative properties, as well as effects. In a study published in the Journal of Alternative & Complementary Medicine (Spring 1998), researchers extolled the many biologic actions of shark liver oil alkylglycerols. It was pointed out that shark liver oil has been around for 40 years and has been used as both a preventative and therapeutic agent. Not only have alkylglycerols been used to treat , as in the case of the children in Sweden, they have also been used to prevent radiation sickness stemming from radiation cancer treatments. Furthermore, the high level of alkylglycerols that exist naturally within any given tumor cell has lead scientists to postulate that this is may be an apparent attempt of the body to control cell growth. In another study referred to in this paper, researchers found that the activation of protein kinase C, an essential step in cancer cell growth, can actually be stopped or inhibited by alkylglycerols. Also, it’s been suggested that alkylglycerols directly act on the macrophages (large immune cells that gobble up cancer cells).

Overall, alkylglycerols are able to educe the macrophage to secrete over 50 substances concerned directly or indirectly with the immune system. Some of these substances, the interleukins, are tough immune system fighters that interact with lymphocytes.
